Honesty is hurting, even it is killing. I cannot believe it either, but that is the truth.
They say, do not make a cheat on your exam, just be honest. Ray, 22, was honest while she was making presentation of her patient for her final test. She had to gain the data of her marasmic infant, about the details of the disease, the health history of the patient, and so on. But the Papa of the baby did not know anything about the child, because he had left the child about a couple of months for work, and he had just been already stucked with his child after he was told that his baby had tuberculosis. So Ray could not investigate the history of the patient, and she could not diagnose the patient as marasmus. Dr Oet, our teacher who did the test, was furious and told Ray that she failed. She had to repeat the exam, but before, she must have gained the history.
Ray was shocked and she was afraid to tell Dr Oet that she could not gain the history because the only godmother of the patient, who had treated the patient ever since the newborn, lived out of town, at Cianjur. So Ray left to Cianjur and looked for the aunt of her patient. Ray was lucky because in the end, she could find her and get the full history.
It was so overreacted. Why did Dr Oet dare to command Ray to make investigation that really hard? What if the godmother lived in Balikpapan, should Ray fly to Balikpapan, too?
The next exam for Ray was not easy. Dr Oet was still not satisfied, he refused every therapy that Ray adviced. Seemed like every things that Ray wrote were all incorrect, and Ray looked so stupid. Finally he told her to repeat the exam three days then. Meanwhile, Ray had to be in other department that day.
Ray made her third exam, the last one. Dr Oet still could not be satisfied, and he told Ray that it ended. Ray did not know if she failed or she passed it. Probably she failed, and she had to return for re-examination in the end of the year. Ray should not be that complicated. My colleague, Ried, 23, told me that probably Ray could have passed it if she faked the data of the patient. The reason is, what could you expect from the only accompanier of the patient who did not know anything about the patient?
But I don’t think so. I think, if Ray was not afraid of Dr Oet’s horror face and she was brave to tell our teacher that the data is very difficult to be gained, Dr Oet would not make Ray pursue her patient’s aunt to Cianjur. I know it was hard. Our teacher did not want to believe that sometimes reaching the patient’s health full-history is not easy, so the only way to make our examination easier is just lying, by making the fake data. It was not a good attitude, but the situation made us to.
Ray, why don’t you just lie? Honesty cannot always help. Sometimes it is hurting, even it is killing. Killing our exam.
